The study's authors claim that the choice of disciplines may be a reason for the difference in paycheques. Women still gravitate toward occupations that are in the midst of wage freezes and rollbacks, such as education, health care and the arts. Meanwhile, men usually choose to work in fields that have shown financial gain, like engineering, technology and commerce.
That is not to say that other factors are no longer at work. Everyday, there are instances of organizations failing to pay or promote women at rates comparable to men. They are still facing gender discrimination in male-dominated fields, systemic barriers, the glass-ceiling syndrome and the notion that, as former Israeli prime minister Golda Meir famously said, "to be successful, a woman has to be much better at her job than a man."ONE female CEO recently said, "Anybody can go to a job with a high-growth business and do well.
