Tyler Gompf, president of TUAU, said the idea behind the project is to take what it has learned in measuring service at such giants as Dairy Queen, Dunkin' Donuts, White Castle restaurants and Ben & Jerry's, and giving regional companies the inside scoop.

"When a problem arises, you won't have a clear route to solving it," he said in an interview yesterday. "The bigger risk is upsetting the customer and losing them."

"If you have a process in place, you can take what could be a detrimental experience where a customer won't return and you can turn them into a raving fan (of your business)."
