Priceless and another classic example of how MPI fails Manitobans. The next time MPI reps recite how grateful you should be for those fantastically low rates you pay for our existing no-fault insurance, think very long and hard about this promotion because Linda Kauk's story is a prime example of what you get -- at best, a trip to the psychiatrist to prove your problem is mental so they can bypass ongoing responsibility. At worst, they'll drop you like a hot potato one to three months into an accident, citing you have no problems, meanwhile, your entire world collapses around you and you become financially destitute trying to bring yourself back to a state of health.
I stopped counting the expenses I incurred after $100,000 (this didn't reflect the non-financial costs that were also devastating). This is a very real, common example and outcome of auto insurance in Manitoba in the case of significant personal injury. Manitobans who deserve assistance aren't getting it. In many cases there are solutions to injuries sustained in car accidents. Kauk found the solution in her case. MPI chooses conveniently to ignore the solutions, creating ridiculous regulations hindering access to necessary services and support and ultimate recovery, all under the misguided claims of doing the best for Manitobans. I doubt Kauk felt MPI acted in her best interests. I know I didn't. Imagine Kauk's life for the past several years if MPI had actually provided her with insurance. This is what we all expect from insurance -- safety and security when we really need it.Have Your Say
