The Heart of the Continent (Margret E. Samson) -- The idea of incorporating the word "heart" into a slogan for Winnipeg is not new. Those of us who used to watch CBC weatherman Ed Rusenholt in the 1950s and '60s will remember him take his chalk and with a flourish, draw a giant heart on the national weather map.
If Mayor Sam Katz has his way and Winnipeg is re-branded as "City of Opportunity", would a city like Calgary change its slogan to "City of More Opportunity"?I was extremely disappointed with the essence of the article. I believe those who hold a valid handicapped parking permit may feel guilty using it if they happen to be having a "good day" as they arrive at their destination. How do we know that this "good day" feeling will persist after an appointment or grocery shopping, etc.? Should they abandon the idea of using the pass because they happen to feel OK at that very moment? The article insinuates that many individuals who do not appear to require the pass are fundamentally abusing the pass. I have a friend who has metastatic cancer and requires chemotherapy treatments for her illness. She has been issued a disability pass due to her condition. She does not look like she requires the pass at all times but I strongly suggest that we, as citizens, suspend our judgment on other individuals, as our ignorance appears to be breeding unjust speculation.Have Your Say
