Summary

Re: Moonwalker in the universe (June 26). There have only been a handful of "modern pop minstrels" that have caused a "true mania" in the public domain while living and in death. The first was Frank Sinatra who wooed the bobby-soxers in pre-war America. After him it was the post-war genius of Hank Williams Sr., who managed to put all his brilliant life's work into a short six-year recording career before his untimely death at 29.

I had to laugh when I read Parking in Winnipeg a real bargain compared to others (June 25). Look at the incomes and cost of living in Toronto and Vancouver compared to Winnipeg. The meters around Health Science Centre and CancerCare are a tax grab. Most people are going to medical appointments or in my case I'm taking a family member to CancerCare every two weeks and the parking is atrocious. I have to be there for at least three hours $2.75 at Manitoba Clinic for only two hours, and heaven forbid you are there for another 20 minutes. It's another $2.75. Why are the meters in that area $2 per hour, double the amount of the meters in the downtown area? I feel that is taking advantage of the public.

Regarding the letter When rubber hits the road (June 13). Having done extensive research in the area of asphalt materials, including rubberized asphalt, for over 25 years, I was concerned about several inaccuracies. The writer implied that possible health or environmental concerns may arise related to rubberized asphalt pavements. The first concern noted was that of fine particulate matter generated from "the wear from tires" that "becomes airborne with traffic." This concern is totally unrelated to rubberized asphalt.

I saw all that he acquired due to his wealth but in t...
