Though not yet an epidemic, public health officials are worried that the rapidly growing rate of infection - and the fact that many people aren't even getting tested until the disease is in an advanced stage - could lay the groundwork for a much more severe outbreak sometime soon. In addition to the high rate of HIV infection, this province has also seen a jump in the number of other sexually transmitted infections, including chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis.
