For the second time in as many years, an idea by Don Jessiman to slap a two per cent tax on hotel and motel rooms in Brandon has failed to receive the support of the majority of his fellow city councillors. Debate on the proposal - which would have seen such a surcharge levied on short-term stays and the resulting revenue used to promote enhanced economic development, culture and recreation - was essentially halted last night after Mayor Dave Burgess brought forward a motion to have no further readings of the bylaw.
