"There doesn't seem to be a way out," said Sister Norma McDonald, chaplain at St. Boniface College, who is attending Friday's fundraiser with Louis and Sisler High School teacher Bathelemy Bolivar, who left Haiti in 2000.

"Winnipeggers have a reputation for being the most generous people in all of Canada," he said. Winnipeggers who've visited Cuba would probably say the same about people there, [Russ Wyatt] said.

"I think there's a lot of people here who've gone to Cuba and have seen how wonderful the folks are there." He hopes they'll attend the social at the Royal Crown Banquet Centre, 5th Floor, 83 Garry St.
