Identity Thieves Don't Focus On Seniors

Justice Minister Rob Nicholson's recent assertion that identity thieves prey on senior citizens is "totally bogus," says a senior anti-fraud investigator.

"Where it's a particular problem is for senior citizens," Nicholson said in an interview last month. "In my opinion, it's actually a type of elder abuse that seniors are a particular target of this kind of crime."

"It's totally bogus," [Barry Elliott] said of Nicholson's assessment of the problem. The second demographic most likely to be victimized is people in their 40s, followed by the 50s, the 20s and then the 60-plus age group.
