Summary
[Vianna Redhead] grew up in Shamattawa, which [Brenda Keyser] notes has 90 per cent unemployment and is rife with "gas- and glue-sniffing and violence." Redhead's mother killed her father when she was just three years old. She was sexually abused by her stepfather and watched as her sister killed her common-law husband. Redhead was physically assaulted in foster care and, while she was in jail, learned her boyfriend had drowned.
Police were called to a Kennedy Street apartment after Redhead's sister phoned 911 saying she was being threatened with a knife. Officers went in through an unlocked door and found Redhead hiding around a corner, clutching the weapon. Redhead immediately lunged at one of the officers."This was a deliberate, premeditated and planned attack," Crown attorney Melinda Murray told court.
