"It's a chance for him to experience life in the country, canoeing, hiking," she says. "It's a chance for him to learn leadership skills, some independence, and he can grow up a little bit."

"Two years in row now we've been able to send over 800 kids to camp, which is really good," said Bryan Ezako, executive director of the Manitoba Camping Association. "We're incredibly happy with that."

"It's important that donations come in all season long, otherwise we might have to limit the number of kids who can go to camp in future years," Ezako said. "That's something we don't want to have to do."
