Manitoba's energy minister, Jim Rondeau applauded the government's decision to move forward on this national initiative. "It does change the greenhouse-gas emissions in most of Canada," said Rondeau. "But we are not going to wait until 2012."

"We want to continue to have people use them and I think that complements the federal initiative," said Rondeau. "That way when it comes to banning incandescent bulbs, we are already there."

"Switching to energy-efficient light bulbs is the first choice that we can make in becoming energy-efficient consumers," said Stuart Hickox, executive director of Project Porchlight, which promotes efficient lighting.
