"We have a lot of Greeks who are from the southern areas where the fires are worst," said Aris Economou, acting president of the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Community, which represents about 3,000 Greeks in Manitoba. The group's president, John Scouras, was visiting Greece last week when he died of causes unrelated to the fires.
