Summary


While preparing a report to address troubles in the child welfare system, [Jon Gerrard] discovered Manitoba kids between the ages of four and 17 have the highest per capita use of Ritalin and other drugs to treat Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Those statistics, compiled by IMS HEALTH, Canada, a health statistics and information company, say in 2004 there were 15.8 pills of Ritalin, Dexedrine and Alertec, prescribed for every child in Manitoba between the ages of four and 17.

In 1999, Manitoba kids had the second lowest per capita use of Ritalin and other ADHD medication.
