Marathon to host mine reclamation symposium.

The eighth annual Ontario Mine Reclamation Symposium and Field Trip will take place in Marathon Sept. 1-2.

The conference is a joint venture of the Ontario Mining Association and the Canadian Land Reclamation Association.

A one-day symposium will highlight the geology and mining history of the Marathon area, and include specific talks on innovative reclamation practices, mine site remediation and reclamation issues.

The field trip will take participants to the Barrick-Hemlo Williams Mine and David Bell Mine, Laurentian University and Lakehead University field sites; the Newmont closed out tailings facility, water treatment plant and quarry; elements of the Geco Mine; and the Stillwater Mining reclaimed exploration sites.
