Anytime you upgrade your flagship from a four-cylinder engine - even a healthy turbochargcd one- to a high-revving V6, that's the item that produces the headlines. Unless you're Audi and you're rejigging the company's TT. Then, the big news isn't the addition of the aging but still ferocious VR6 engine, but your new six-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG). It's basically a six-speed manual transmission, with not one, but two clutches. And get this - both are electronically controlled and automatic. Because it has two clutches, two sets of gears can be engaged at the same time. The new TFs engine is far more familiar, although this is Audi's first use of Volkswagen's VKo engine.
