"It was too short of notice, coast to coast," [Nathan McIver] said Tuesday at MTS Centre. "By the time I called them up, it was already 8 o'clock out there. It was so last minute.

"They were all excited to see my first NHL game," he said. "My dad coached me growing up just about every year."

"They didn't tell me a whole lot up there," McIver said. "[Rick Bowness] talked to both me and Patty (Coulombe) because it was the first game for both of us and he said a lot of young guys come up and kind of watch.
