The union negotiating committee never responded to the Free Press. Instead, it posted the proposals on its website, along with what it called "Fact Sheets" regarding each proposal. These "Fact Sheets" contained a number of inaccuracies and misrepresentations.
The Free Press provided to the union its response to the "Fact Sheets" on October 16. The Free Press response to the union negotiating committee pointed out some of the inaccuracies and misrepresentations contained in the "Fact Sheets" and, in order to facilitate the parties in achieving a settlement, the Free Press indicated that it was prepared to amend proposals for the purposes of clarification.We don't begrudge our employees and carriers any of this. Their contributions are what make the Free Press. We are sorry that they are walking a picket line. We also apologize to our readers and advertisers for this dispute, which has removed Winnipeg's best newspaper from their lives. We'd like to see our staff back at their jobs and the Free Press back in all our lives.Message From the Publisher
