First Nation Voting On Chief's Headingley Gas Bar Proposal

One band councillor and a group of women marched up and down the country's main trucking route at Headingley with placards pleading for public support, cheering when cars honked in response. "The chief's got a sign up that says, "gas, smokes, movies, more," declared elected band councillor Elaine Scott. "It's this one business we're protesting. We don't want (just) one individual to benefit from the land."

"I had already arranged my own financing as a private member of the band," [Robert Daniels] said. "Since there was such opposition, we figured it would be best to take this matter to the people and let them decide."
