Summary
Winnipeg tenor PJ Buchan was solid as Prince Shuisky. He has a wonderfully sweet voice, which, although it didn't carry nearly as well as [Nikita Storojev]'s rumbling bass, combines pleasing timbre, great accuracy and fine vibrato. We lost him when he turned his head away from us, but what we could hear was lovely.
Mickelthwate and the WSO were especially sharp and the chorus, comprised of the Winnipeg Philharmonic Choir "and Associates" was obviously well prepared by director Yuri Klaz. Their full and hearty delivery made this especially exciting. Young Drew Bremault was poised and impeccable in his small solo as [Boris]' son. But it was the magnetic performance of Storojev that ruled. You couldn't take your eyes off him.See the full content of this document
