As [Roderick MacDougall]'s employer, the B.C. government accepted liability for the assaults, but questioned [Dean Zastowny]'s claim his abuse had contributed to and prolonged his criminal ways.
The B.C. Court of Appeal upheld the award but reduced the amount of total lost wages to $125,000 -- compensating Zastowny only for the extra time he served as a result of not obtaining parole.It awarded Zastowny $75,000 for personal injury and counselling, plus $35,000 for lost future income, but only allowed him $30,000 for lost wages in the months between his various jail sentences over 12 years.No Compensation for Ex-Cons' Lost Wages
