If terrorists wanted to launch an attack in Canada, there is no shortage of opportunities. No one thinks of searching the hundreds of thousands of commuters riding subway cars in Toronto and Montreal every morning or crowds at baseball stadiums, arenas and concert halls. Terrorists cannot be prevented from using private planes or setting off bombs in subways or department stores. Actually, airport screening in Canada began well before the September 11 attacks. Indeed, there is as much if not more support for useless security measures in Washington than in Ottawa. The Canadian government just tags along. Society, media and politicians just let this happen.
