"They have the disposable cash and they not only want to feel good, they want to look good," says Gary Paige, a dental hygienist and manager of Winnipeg's two Dental Image Therapy Centres. (Just three years ago, the clinic he's in was called St. Vital Dental Care.) "It's one of the things people can do that's quite conservative and, as cosmetic improvements go, fairly low-priced."

"The reason we have it here is that our patients demanded it," Paige says. "There are probably 15 similar products, but people are familiar with Zoom."

"Bleaching shouldn't be done on a regular basis," [Benoit Soucy] says. "Hypersensitivity can evolve because the peroxide does get through the enamel, and once it reaches dentin, it can get into the pulp and create irritation."
