Petroleum Industry Working to Attract, Keep Skilled Workers

"There are so many opportunities for careers in oil and gas -- it's an exciting industry to be part of," [Lynn Merrithew] said. "The industry didn't have a very good reputation for keeping people and, when it got them, they didn't want to stay.

"We're trying to be more innovative," [Lori Ackerman] said. "Businesses are working so hard, they don't have time to be innovative. If we can recruit more people, and retain them year-round, we will build a stronger community. We want to build a community of people who want to stay here."

"We need to work on how to make the community more attractive," [Sara Conkin] said. "We're finding some guys come for work and they bring their families, but their wives hate it here.
