"What would you say if somebody came to your door and said that your daughter passed away?" said [Wayne Woodham], who has raised [Ashley Fearns] since she was seven months old.

"They told us she was up on the third floor in ICU. ... We got told they were putting tubes in her and we go, 'How can you put tubes in a person who has passed away?' And the nurse said to us, 'She's very well alive."'

"I've got my ups and down right now," he said. "It's hard. You don't know what to say to people when they come up to talk to you. You try to tell them your best without breaking out in tears."
