To give Rich street cred with contemporary kids, director Ron Jenkins and designer Leanne Foley set it in a skateboard park, where [Timm] and his pals roll and rock in front of the pearly gates of the CEO's mansion. There's plenty to see as the 10-person cast tears around the stage dancing and skating (who knew Jennifer Lyon was hell on wheels?) under a long, narrow video screen.
As Timm, Edmonton's Scott Shpeley carries the show with a powerful voice and an affable persona reminiscent of Topher Grace, the nice-guy Eric Forman of TV's That '70s Show.No matter how much Timm wins, he can't outwardly project his happiness and he becomes known for his trademark frown. His friends want the old giggling Timm back. So does his girlfriend Moira, who makes her feelings known in the Avril Lavigne-like ballad I Don't Know You Anymore, performed beautifully by Kimberley Rampersad.See the full content of this document
