As the international chairman of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, the prince will present 100 young Manitobans with a certificate to mark their achievement of the self-development program's gold level, said an organizer of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, Manitoba division.
"There's not too many people who have met royalty in Winnipeg," said Colleen O'Morrow, [Danny Malcolmson]'s mother. Talking about her son's recent struggle to find compensated work after his graduation from Glenlawn last year, her voice filled with emotion. Malcolmson credited her son's former teacher, Bonnie Southern -- who has run the Duke of Edinburgh program with her students for the last five years -- with encouraging the men and helping them figure out how they could adapt the program's flexible requirements.
