Province awards millions in highway contracts.

Road construction season is underway as more than $37 million in provincial highway contracts were recently awarded.

Aecon Construction was awarded a $16-million contract to repave a 2.7-kilometre section of road on Highway 17 and Highway 6 near Nairn Centre. It's scheduled for completion in the fall of 2017.

Pioneer Construction landed two highway contracts worth a combined $16.8 million in northeastern Ontario in Sudbury and north of Sault Ste. Marie.

The contractor was selected for a $10.9-million job for the interchange at Highway 17 and Regional Road 55 at Lively in Greater Sudbury. The company was also awarded a $5.9-million job to repave at the intersection of Highway 552 and 556 in Heyden, north of the Sault. Work on the both projects will be done this fall.
