Attorney General Dave Chomiak said under proposed changes to the province's police act, the advisory board will be replaced with a board that provides actual civilian oversight, which could include the power to hire a police chief, set policy and budgets and even oversee civilian complaints of officer misconduct.
"I expect we'll land on something that Winnipeg will like," Chomiak said."We're asking everyone to put a little bit of wine in their water," Chomiak said. "I think we can get the right police act.
