Summary
During the criti- cal landing phase he experienced a rare PTO shaft failure resulting in the loss of his main and standby generators along with both system A and B hydraulics, and caused the Emergency Power Unit to fire. Due to an ex- tended delay in emergency response, the aircraft battery subsequently failed and Capt Arki was forced to execute an extremely difficult task in the F-16, manually raising the canopy, after which he successfully egressed the aircraft in a hazardous environment without adequate oxygen supply.
