The provincial NDP government has done the right thing by proposing that the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs run any casino in the Wheat City, while Brandon Mayor Dave Burgess and city council did right by asking voters the simple, straightforward question - do you support the establishment of a casino in the City of Brandon, yes or no? - on March 12. In 2002, council made a difficult situation worse by asking voters if they were OK with putting a casino on an urban reserve, a moot point since the rules stipulated that any casino had to be built on land converted to reserve status.
