[Marcus Printup] is a stalwart and star soloist in the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, which he performed in at the 2008 Jazz Winnipeg Festival (he also was here a year earlier in a Lincoln Center Jazz All-stars concert as part of the Izzy Asper Jazz Performances).

Caught in the act: Jeff Presslaff Trio at Mardi Jazz at Centre culturel franco-manitobain where Presslaff (keyboards), Julian Bradford (bass) and Scott Senior (drum set) ran through tunes from the band's recording Red Goddess and material earmarked for the next CD, including Sprain for Wayne by Winnipeg's Danielle Baert, a beautiful piece inspired, apparently, by nearly spraining an ankle and the great saxophonist/composer Wayne Shorter.

The trio also performed 'Nother Monkish Thing, a Presslaff composition that recently was nominated for a 2009 grassroots music organization Just Plain Folks (JPF) music award in the best instrumental jazz category.
