Summary
This Ukrainian Famine and genocide has been recognized by the House of Commons and the Senate, in legislation introduced by Manitoba MP James Bezan and passed as a private member's bill, Bill C-459, establishing a Memorial Day in November. Also the Government of Manitoba, spearheaded by MLA Len Derkach, unanimously passed Bill 217 accepting this bill as the Ukrainian Famine and Genocide Memorial Day Act. With the passing of these two bills, Manitoba's and Canada's parliaments recognize the forced Ukrainian Famine of 1932-33 as a genocide against the Ukrainian people.
