The K&N air filter is an aftermarket performance filter that provides higher maximum airflow than the factory air filter. If you are looking for performance at higher engine r.p.m., then the K&N filter would be a good choice. At normal cruising speeds, the airflow through the stock air filter would be more than sufficient.
There are two ways of increasing the airflow through a filter: increase the filter area or decrease the restriction of the filter media. The replacement K&N filter fits in the factory air box, so there is no increase in filter area. Therefore, the airflow increase must come from it being less restrictive. This could let more dust into the engine if you drive in dusty conditions. Finally, the K&N filter is cleanable, but it must be oiled properly with the K&N filter oil after cleaning. The factory filter is a dry filter but it must be replaced when dirty. Replacing a dirty air filter will help fuel economy. If you want maximum high r.p.m. performance too, then the K&N filter would be a fine choice.Replacing Dirty Air Filter Good 2for Fuel Economy
