Summary
[Patrick Brown] is modest about his work, never claiming to break a big story. Indeed, he is quite willing to give examples of where he got the story completely wrong, as when he implied Deng Xiaopeng was headed for the rubbish heap, while Mikhail Gorbachev was the man of the future. Soon after the story aired Gorbachev lost control of the Soviet Union and Deng crushed the democracy movement in Tiananmen Square and consolidated his hold on power.
Those who can recall being impressed with Brown's work might find themselves muttering, "Come on now, it was not that bad." The final strand in the story concerns Brown's new home: China.
