Manitoba's only lizard species spends the winter hibernating, but conservationists are working on a computerized mapping system to plot the best way to protect the skinks' home turf.
Loss of prime territory has fragmented skink populations and landed the striped lizard on Canada's endangered species list. The species has yet to be listed under Manitoba's Endangered Species Act, though it is protected under the Wildlife Act."There's certainly still lots of them there, but they're in small, isolated areas," said biologist Doug Collicutt, who runs the Save Our Skinks website.See the full content of this document
