Residents Rally to Save Grace Er

Summary


Pickets of all ages waved homemade signs saying "save our ER" and "hospital medicine 2007" in response to recent rumours that a chronic emergency physician shortage could force the government to shut down the ER as early as June.

St. James resident Evan MacKenzie said he's worried the community's aging population will suffer if the Grace ER isn't properly staffed. Six years ago, MacKenzie was rushed to Grace emergency after he suffered a heart attack.

"It's a big deal, it's a community hospital," [Amelia Gamvrelis] said. "It's important they have one."
