Summary


Serafina's rage at being torn from a pending marriage consumes her as she faces a lifetime of exile as a nun. Like so many nobles of their time, her parents can afford to marry off only one daughter, her sister. So Serafina is sent to marry Christ for a much lesser price. And she's not happy.

The plot of this new novel by British writer [Sarah Dunant] is rich with the daily rhythms and complex characters of convent life. While the plot never extends beyond the walls of the convent, the sense of the historical significance of the setting is profound.

So, angry and bewildered Serafina is caught between the ministrations of the healer and the strict disciplinarian. Serafina is not easily tamed. Even in her acquiescence to convent life, she is odd.
