Als quarterback Anthony Calvillo was intercepted three times, including in the fourth quarter with Montreal scrimmaging from the Riders' 10-yard line. He also was sacked seven times.

Calvillo passed 13 yards to Kerry Watkins, 11 to Chris Davis and then Mike Imoh ran for 18, moving to the Riders' 44-yard line. The quarterback found Watkins for an 11-yard gain.

Both teams' offences operated in neutral for most of the remainder of the half. The Als, attempting to learn co-ordinator Marcel Bellefeuille's new offence, made plenty of mistakes that couldn't be attributed to the new system. Watkins dropped a pass -- something he became known for last season -- and Calvillo tripped over his feet at one point.
