Things are different today, he says. While boomers fought to get rock music into the church, their kids -- who grew up with it -- want to push it in new directions and redefine Christian rock music altogether. "Many of today's Christian rockers aren't as willing as their parents to listen simply to songs' messages," he says. "They want to hear stuff that's out in front musically, too."

For [Andrew Beaujon], groups that are on the musical edge in the Christian rock music world include Mewithoutyou, P.O.D., Switchfoot, and Underoath. They are groups that don't find it necessary to pay attention to what the Christian music industry calls "the Jesus per minute factor" -- the appropriate number of times that the word "Jesus" should be used in a song. According to Beaujon, they are bands which let their Christianity define "their world views more than it does their music," and that are "really stretching the music and making legitimate art, while addressing Christian concerns."

In addition to Beaujon, who will offer what [Jamie Howison] calls "an outsider's view" of the Christian music scene, Winnipeg artist Steve Bell will provide "an insider's view." At the same time, Howison says that all participants in the series will be invited to share their own views on faith, music and art during presentations, panel discussions, small groups, a songwriter's circle and over meals.
