Romeo &Amp; Juliet at Remand

Summary

"That's crazy, that's crazy. I'll work on your bail. I would do anything for you," [Stef], outfitted in baggy blue jeans, a faded, unbuttoned army shirt, a crimson bustier and well-worn sneakers, says earnestly to her boyfriend.

During a sudden, intense downpour, [Noam Gonick] encourages Stef to "dance" and "scream" in the rain for her boyfriend. She does so quite willingly.

He notes that the Remand Centre was designed by architect Étienne Gaboury, whose iconic Precious Blood Church, built in 1968, is "a high-water mark in local modernist architecture." Gonick appropriated the title of the church for his installation because blood is a local slang word for aboriginal. "The project will loop in approximately four minutes, climaxing in an effort by the women on the street to shatter the glass walls of the Remand Centre with their spirited catcalls," says Gonick.
