Mp's Bill Receives Lukewarm Welcome

It is the first time Jim Maloway, a former Manitoba NDP MLA elected federally in October, introduced legislation in the House of Commons. He is confident the bill has a lot of support, but admitted he is getting "mixed messages" from other MPs.

"As a rookie MP, he got everybody thinking and he definitely rattled the airlines," said the source, who didn't want to be named. "He deserves credit for advancing the issue. But I think this bill is going to crash and burn."

"It will lower passenger safety in Canada by encouraging more risk taking," [Brian Jean] said. "There is nothing more important to this Conservative government than the safety of Canadians and we are going to make sure that they remain safe while they travel. Safety must come first."
