Summary
"Once your breathing is under control, you should try to get out of the water as quickly as possible. Put your arms on the ice and kick your legs until your body becomes horizontal near the water's surface. Then, kick vigorously and pull yourself up onto the ice. If you're unable to get out of the water, you'll eventually become incapacitated. Leave your arms on the ice and stop struggling. Hopefully, your arms will freeze to the ice, so that if unconsciousness happens, your head will remain above the water and you won't drown," says [Gordon Giesbrecht], a professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management at University of Manitoba.
