Terry Sheehan, Sault Ste. Marie's member of parliament (MP), has been appointed to the Standing Committee on Industry, Science, and Technology.

The committee studies and reports on legislation, the activities and spending of Industry Canada and its portfolio members, and other issues related to industry and technology capability; scientific research and development; telecommunications policy; investment, trade, small business and tourism; and rules and services that support the effective operation of the marketplace.

In a Sept. 21 news release, Sheehan made a link between his involvement on the committee and the Sault's slumping steel sector.

"Our government's agenda to grow the economy by supporting middle-class Canadians and those working to join the middle class, relies on the success of Canadian industry, science, and technology," Sheehan said in the release.
