School Bus Strike Looms

Summary


School bus drivers and mechanics working for a private company serving the Winnipeg School Division have voted 100 per cent in favour of a strike.

Bargaining continues, but the drivers and mechanics can go on strike any time with seven days' notice, an official with Local 832 of the United Food and Commercial Workers said Wednesday.

The Winnipeg School Division issued a statement late Wednesday afternoon expressing optimism that a settlement can be reached, but refused to say if parents would be expected to get their children to school during a bus drivers' strike, including those special needs children requiring specialized transportation.
