"(The deal) will make our group the leading operator of optical stores in the country and the only one with full national coverage," Valerio Giaccobi, Luxottica's executive vice president for North American retail, said in a statement.

Luxottica, with annual sales of about 4.4 billion euros ($6.3 billion Cdn), designs and makes prescription eyeglass frames and sunglasses under brands including Chanel and Ray-Ban. The Milan-based company's retail division includes Pearle Vision, the chain Luxottica gained when it bought Cole National Corp., as well as LensCrafters and Sunglass Hut.
