1. We add a new cat (usually seniors) to our household when one passes away. Of course they come with their habits. There was one cat that was always scratching the rug, even though I have at least three scratching posts of different heights in the house. Once I actually opened my eyes, it all made sense! The scratching post is usually made with carpet. This carpet was exactly the same texture as my floor carpet. I then purchased two different sisal scratching posts instead (my girlfriend found a "log" one with rope wound around the wood). Now, when the cats go to the rug, I pick them up and take them to the post and make scratching motions on the new post. I also rub catnip all over. It only takes a few days of this before they catch on. Submitted by Chris Pratt
4. If you get bit by a black fly, soak yourself in a baking soda bath (about one cup for a full tub) to help ease the itchiness. Next, cut a garlic clove in half and rub on the bite. You won't smell great, but it helps ease the itch, and "cuts the poison," as my grandmother insisted. Submitted by Pat ColeSolutions
