Summary

[Jacquelyn Garrett]'s own fortune read, "All the preparation you've done will finally be paying off."

First-time author [Jennifer] 8. [Lee] initially covered the Powerball story for the New York Times, where she works as a metro reporter. Fascinated by America's deep affection for chop suey and egg foo yung ("There are more Chinese food restaurants in this country than McDonald's, Burger King and Kentucky Fried Chicken combined," Lee writes), the self-described ABC, or American-born Chinese, set off on a Bill Bryson-esque journey to better understand American-style Chinese food. And the people who prepare it.

Lee tells us that when [Michael]'s ship ran aground off New York's Rockaway Beach in 1993, it wasn't the American Dream that awaited him. Rather, it was a three-year stint at Pennsylvania's York County Prison.
