Perhaps I'm being rough -- after all, you are a tragic 58-year-old drug casualty with a family I would ditch at a rest stop, but the trailblazing young [OZZY OSBOURNE] would snap this disc in half with his teeth and cut his chest open. It's a decent album for a man your age, so maybe I'm just nitpicking because I don't want you to sound like the stuttering old colouring-book fan you've become. Sure there are some great moments here: the swirling grinder I Don't Wanna Stop, the menacing title track, the stadium rocker 11 Silver and the soaring chorus of Civilize the Universe. So as an album, this makes a fine EP.

The band's followup delivers more secret solo headphone parties. There's nothing as immediately, vexingly catchy as This Love on this distractingly overproduced, glib offering, but as hard as it is to admit admiration for a bunch of slick white guys appropriating Michael Jackson and Prince's grooves, they have a kind of unpretentious knack for it (if you disregard the less laudable Terence Trent D'Arby ripoffs).

More like edited by [Mahler], as opposed to arranged, as many eagle-eyed conductors liked to do to overcome the fallibility in music they loved. Mahler concurred with the common opinion that [Schumann]'s orchestrations were often too thick, yet loved that composer's four symphonies so much he felt obliged to discreetly tweak dynamics, orchestration and more so that Schumann's innate vitality wouldn't suffer from technical shortcomings in how the music was originally set down.
