"When he's hot, when he's swinging it, we've got to get him in there. We'd be crazy not to," manager John Gibbons said on the weekend after [Matt Stairs] homered in three straight games as the Jays lost two of three in Philadelphia.

"When I signed here, I knew it was for one thing only -- that I was going to be a pinch-hitter and a platoon player once in a while," he said. "You start getting going pretty good and swinging a hot bat, suddenly you're the hot hand. When [Adam Lind] finds his swing again, I expect to be back on the bench again, and that's a place I don't mind being."

"Over the last three years, I've had 500 plate appearances, 480 plate appearances, 430 plate appearances," he said of his unanticipated activity. "I was in that platoon role, but unfortunately someone always went down. It's not a good way to get at-bats, but it happens."
